As you know Kazakhstan Student Society is an
organisation that puts unity of our fellow students at the centre of
everything it does. Having taken decisive steps towards uniting
Kazakhstanis in the UK since the beginning of the academic year our
society is delighted to announce another unprecedented initiative,
Annual ‘Parasat’ Debating Competition among university Kazakh
societies. With our country’s anniversary being celebrated on 16th
December the competition is held in commemoration of 18th year since
our independence. The competition is yet another opportunity for you to
meet fellow students from different regions of the UK at the same time
make your university Kazakh Society known throughout our community.
Competition
will take place on Saturday, 5th December 2009 in London from 10:30
until 17:00. The language of debating will be English, with an option
of Kazakh language category depending on the availability of Kazakh
speaking teams, please get contact us for further information.
Debate
will be carried out on elimination basis and Winners will be awarded
with the Trophy ‘Parasat 2009’ as well as £300 cash prize. And second
finalist team will be awarded with £150 cash prize. Also there is a
special prize for the Best Speaker.
In order to register
please contact us on debate@kazakhstudents.org expressing you desire to
participate in the competition by Tuesday 24th November. Registration
fee of £30 per team applies, £25 of which will be part of the final
prize for the winner and £5 will be donated to the charity. Once your
team is registered full information including rules and regulations as
well as logistics of the competition will be emailed to you.

Debate
will be run on elimination basis, once team looses it is out of
competition, using Parliamentary Debate format, with ideally 16 teams
consisting of two speakers starting the competition and only 2 making
it to the grand final. First two round of debating will be carried out
on pre-set resolutions which will be email to you at least 7 days
before the competition, however you will not know if you are going to
be debating in favour or against the motion until the day of
competition. And resolution for the final two rounds will be set known
on the day. Winners will be decided by the judges to be chosen among
working professional, Embassy staff and other parties connected to
Kazakhstan.
